Job Description

Easter Seals New York is hiring a full-time Occupational Therapist to support students with cognitive disabilities at The Kessler Center, a residential special education school for students who have not found success at any other program in New York State. Be part of a team bringing revolutionary, creative, and best-practice strategies to special education for the most vulnerable youth. Students are typically between the ages of 12 and 21, are on the Autism Spectrum, have profound sensory processing and integration needs, challenges with communication, in addition to fine and gross motor deficits.

Our occupational therapists are part of a large interdisciplinary team that includes Psychiatry, Psychology, nursing, behavior specialists, speech pathologists, nutritionists, physical therapists, and social work. This team comes together to design the most innovative and creative approach to meeting the unmet needs of our children. We value the knowledge, experience, passion, and creativity of our clinical staff and encourage them to put their best-practices into use as well as trying new and innovative strategies.

The Occupational Therapist will support students in individual and group therapy sessions per Individual Education Plan (IEP) requirements as well as supporting classroom and residential teams in the carryover of therapeutic supports across all 24-hours of the individual’s day. In addition to direct therapy, the Occupational Therapist will conduct formal standardized evaluations, conduct observational assessments, train staff in wraparound strategies, attend and participate in CSE and residential planning meetings, support family skill development for carryover, and develop treatment plans with commensurate goals for each individual.

The position requires NYS licensure to work as an Occupational Therapist. Pay is commensurate with experience. The position is full-time 40 hours/wk, 52 weeks per year with accrued paid time off, agency holidays, medical, dental and 403(b) benefits.
