The Outreach Worker acts as a mentor to a caseload of participants, residents who are at high risk for being a victim or perpetrator of a shooting in the near future, as determined by a list of risk factors specific to the community. The Outreach Worker sees each client multiple times per week, conveying a message of rejecting the use of violence and assisting them to obtain needed services such as job training, continuing education services, drug abuse counseling, etc. The Outreach Worker works independently, as well as part of the SOY project team to mobilize community anti-violence efforts; and to change norms/conditions that contribute to the violence epidemic
