The Institute for Family Connections™ is currently hiring for a Part-time Home Finding Specialist I to work with a collaborative team of Hillside and Onondaga County Department of Children and Family Services employees to recruit, train, certify and support foster/adoptive parents and kinship caregivers for Onondaga County. The Home Finding Specialist I will be located with county employees at the County Office Building at least 1 day per week to enhance communication and team work.
Part time position (20-23 hours per week) Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm.
Some occasional evening working hours will be required–must be available to train foster parent applicants on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm in Syracuse, NY.
Duties include: Conducting on-going recruitment and informational activities, meeting with prospective foster/adoptive families and kinship caregivers, and delivery of initial foster parent/kinship training methods (GPSII/MAPP, Deciding Together, Caring for Our Own).
Requirements:
- Associates degree in Human Services or a related area of study; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 1+ years of home finding or relevant experience
- Equivalent education and experience will be considered
- Experience being a foster parent or foster child preferred
- Must have excellent communication skills, and be able to learn dual systems for documentation and paperwork completion
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet agency driving standards
- Experience in foster care/adoption as well as certification as GPSII/MAPP and Deciding Together certification preferred.
